TORO 38361 Electric Snow Shovel
What makes this electric snow blower so special? Look at it, it’s so small, beautiful, easy to handle. Does it have a high price? Not at all, the price for this “electric snow shovel” is just under $100. Although this is not the strongest electric snow blower on the market, the TORO 38361 power shovel holds its weight and comes in 4th on our list and I call this compact tool – the best affordable electric snow blower. Why? Because of its low price and high-quality!
Also, look at size – it’s a small snow blower which is easy to use and easy to store when you don’t need it. Toro is a very well-known brand name and is known for their sturdy machines and this electric snow shovel is no exception. It has a strong 7.5 amp motor which can easily plow snow up to 6 inches in depth. Technically, you can drive this unit pretty hard above 6 inches of snow, although it is not recommended.
The Power Shovel only shoots snow straight ahead, therefore, a snow chute does not exist. For this reason, we found it practical to position the unit in the middle of the driveway and shovel towards the grass on both sides. If not, you’re technically piling up more snow to push which isn’t exactly smart. This is small electric snow blower so it takes little storage space and another bonus – it’s not an expensive tool!
TORO 38361 Pros and Cons
- Easy to use
- Adjust the operator handle’s angle and/or height as needed.
- Sliding and rotating adjustments ensure enhanced control and comfort.
- Adjust the length of the telescoping handle to suit your height.
- Toro 38361 is a small electric snow blower
- Limited to a cord length
- No chute control
- Not good for a large amount of snow
The Toro 38361 comes with a 2-year warranty and performed great with multiple levels of snow customers tested it on. It did start bogging down at around 8 inches of snow, which it isn’t designed to do necessarily anyways.
In summary, the Toro Power shovel brings a lot to the table – durability, and versatility. We recommend this unit to anybody who’s looking to clear off snow from small driveways, walkways, and steps. For any larger snow clearing tasks, a bigger snow blower will be a better choice.View at Amazon

Gasoline is expensive and making sure that the tank of your snow blower is filled up on those cold mornings is a drag. Thankfully, the Toro 38381 is an electric snow blower and it’s super easy to use. You never have to top off a gasoline tank, and this snow blower does not negatively impact the environment with carbon emissions.

What’s the Difference Between Single Stage and Two Stage Snow Blowers
In single stage snow blowers, the auger does all the work taking in the snow that channeling to the discharge chute that’s what shoots, blows and throws snow out of the way. In two-stage snow thrower, the auger still pulls in the snow but have help from a “second hand” – the impeller. The impeller helps to push snow through to the discharge chute. He had help from the impeller giving more power and efficiency when clearing snow and is better for having a job done.
Choosing the right snow blower comes with three main factors:
- How much snow do you get?
- How big is the area you need to clear?
- What’s your terrain like?
More snow means you want a snow blower with a larger auger. Medium-size augers can handle more snow, but the good, powerful snow blower can handle up to 42 inches of snow.
The augers with the largest clearing width help tackle up to 24 inches and are best if you have more than 10 inches of snow on a consistent basis.
What sort of terrain are you plowing?
If you get hill slopes or gravel there are certain types of snow blowers that will handle those obstacles better.
Note: you should use only single stage blowers with plastic scrapers on decks and porches to prevent surface damage.
You should also think about plow pile that’s a big mound of snow left by the plow at the end of your driveway you wanna blow these away or is able to cut through those without stalling.

Types of Snow Blowers
It’s time to look at the different types of snow blowers out there to see which fits your needs.
Electric Snow Blower (corded)
Recommended for: 0-12 inches of snow.
Pros: Compact, low maintenance, easy to start.
Cons: Job limited by cord length, poor handling.
While that may sound convenient just plug in and go. The cord can limit your clearing distance and make handling tricky and dangerous if you run over the cord. Also, If the power goes out so is your snow blower.
Cordless Electric Snow Blower or Battery-Powered Snow Blower
Recommended for: 0-8 inches of snow.
Pros: Compact, quiet, easy to handle and maintain.
Cons: Limited battery runtime, short throwing distance.
With no cord or gas engine, they’re like easy to handle and quite. They are best for decks and porches and walkways with four inches of snow or less. No powered wheels on these guys so you’ll do all the work on moving the machine. Also, that auger will pick up gravel on its way and spit it elsewhere and if you get more than 6 inches of snow expected to make several passes with the snow blower.
Single-Stage Snow Blowers (gas powered)
Recommended for: 4-16 Inches of snow.
Pros: Easy to store, more powerful than electric.
Cons: Difficult on hills, more maintenance, higher price.
One more power with less effort that’s where gasoline engines come in handy. This type of snow blower still relatively lightweight and easy to handle and they offer more power than electric snow blowers. Again this is a good choice for sidewalks, porches, decks and perhaps a small driveway. They clear a larger area than electric snow blowers in one pass but still not the best for slopes.
Two-Stage Snow Blowers
Recommended for: 6-24 inches of snow.
Pros: Powerful, engine-driven wheels, clears more snow, additional features.
Cons: Higher price, more maintenance, bulky.
Got a lot of ground covered?
2-stage or dual stage blowers offer the best in power and efficiency. They have an impeller that speeds things a lot and it pulls the snow from the auger and pushes it through the chute. Plus they have engine-driven wheels which mean you aren’t doing all the pushing and hills are easier to tackle. Dual-stage blowers also have skid shoes which act as a buffer between the bottom of the snowblower and the surface you’re clearing. You can set this skid shoes higher so the auger doesn’t touch the ground making these the only blowers that can handle gravel. They also best for dealing with the dreaded plow file at the end of your driveway.
A few brands offer a category of blowers they promote as the 3 stage snow blowers. Operationally similar to the 2-stage, but the three-stage snow blowers features an accelerator that moves ten times faster than the augers to clear much more heavy snow quicker than 2-stage blowers. A 3-stage snow blower is capable of handling more snow in less time.

What’s about gas-powered snow blowers?
Snow blowers come with a lot of bonus features now to make the job easier and more comfortable.
Here’s some to look when shopping a gas powered snow blower:
- An electric starter – instead of pulling the starter cord to start the engine you can plug in your blower to the outlet and start it that way.
- A clearing tool. So you can safely clean up the chute. Never use your hands.
- Multiple speeds. Most dual-stage blowers come with several speeds to prevent clogs when you’re plowing through heavy snow. Single stage models have just one speed.
Want to up your convenience factor?
Think about controls, you’ll be adjusting the chute often so you want to make sure the controls comfortable for you. With the manual chute control, you stop the machine and adjust the chute yourself. However, some models come with the controls that you can use it from the driver’s seat. Such as a long handle on single stage model or a joystick on a dual-stage blower. Some dual stage snowblowers come with a controller that allows you to steer the wheels with one hand and chute with the other.
2-Stage snow blower often comes with extra features, for example, some come with heated handgrips and headlight. But the most important feature when it comes to dual-stage blowers it’s an easy turn capability. Easy turn capability allows the outer wheel to turn faster than the inside wheel so your blower turns easier. Most commonly it’s a trigger near the handle that you squeeze in the direction you want to turn.
